After the announcement by Vattenfall Europe to build a lignite power plant with a carbon sequestration unit, it is now BP's turn together with ConocoPhillips, Shell and Scottish & Southern Energy to declare the implementation of a carbon-free power plant project.
The technology is different: The carbon is to be sequestered from the fuel before combustion. The 350 MW plant, to be built in Scotland, will be fired by hydrogen generated from natural gas. The by-product of the hydrogen-generation is CO2, which is going to be stored in a North Sea oil field.
