Dutch Economic Affairs:"We will meet Kyoto; caps per site will more stringent though"

Posted by Jos Cozijnsen in Managing

A spokesman from the Ministry for Economic Affairs - responsible for the allocation - said today in Het Financieele Dagblad, that the judgment by the European Commission that The Netherlands is not on track of Kyoto (see here) is wrong. They have explained that and will do so again. The same, overall cap - 112 Mton - will be apllied. Nevertheless, caps per participating installation will be more stringent because the 'opt out' clause ends. The 'new companies' are for example in the horticulture, bricks industry, ashpalt production, CHP from hospitals and universities, food industry, and also from naphta crackers on chemical sites from Dow and Shell. Besides Sabic is planning to build a new cracker and there will be new power plants built.
