Why ÖEKV chose Climex for its members

Posted by Sascha Bloemhoff in General Interest

The Österreichischer Energie Kkonsumenten -Verband (ÖOEKV) is an organisation representing the energy intensive industry in Austria with over four hundred members and more than 59 years of experience in energy consulting for trade, industry, service enterprises and supporting experts in federal organisations. We work as an independent consultant in the fields of energy efficiency and planning, procurement of electricity, gas, heating and CO2-EUAs for Austrian and international companies and institutions.

In 2006, ÖEKV decided to research the carbon emissions market in order to find the best possible trading options for its members, who found they were faced with a new obligation: CO2 compliance.
We investigated and compared all exchanges and trading solutions with the ambition to discover the best solutions for the Austrian industry. In this process, during 2006, our attention was drawn to the outstanding CO2-trading platform-exchange “Climex” At the end of our research Climex stood out by far as the best option for our members, for a number of reasons. Alongside valuable features like minimised easy-handling, excellent credit ratings, personal trade support, the highest possible flexibility and Climex’ liquidity even crushed many international comparisons. The most intriguing part is that this whole package comes without any membership fees and highly competitive transaction fees.

Therefore, we requested a cooperation with Climex which puts them in charge of trading issues and leaves us to service CO2-information to Austrian Industries. This division of labour allows us to launch an international product perfectly suited to Austria and Climex receives access to a long-term network in return. This successful win/win solution has enough potential to be a role-model for other organisations in European countries as well which are on the hunt for innovative remedies to face the CO2 regime.
